In Automatic mode, finish parameters are calculated from the traced frame and the lens-feeling data; in Customized mode, the finish settings can be fully customized. Automatic mode starts the edging cycle after feeling, while Customized mode exposes the relevant trajectory, distribution or point adjustments.

These two modes are not interchangeable descriptions of the same operation. Automatic mode uses the information acquired when the frame is traced and the lens is felt, so there is normally no finish configuration to enter.
Customized mode allows the operator to change the finish geometry. Depending on the job, this can include front- or rear-surface tracking, distributed bevel or groove, lens-curve tracking, frame-rim tracking, global or local curve changes, and curve displacement.
- Automatic mode: calculated parameters and automatic cycle start after feeling.
- Customized mode: operator-defined finish settings and an additional configuration screen.
Mixed jobs are a special case: because the operator must define the transition points between finishes, only Customized mode is accessible.
