Why does the Bausch & Lomb Stellaris Phaco Machine show an incorrect cassette fluid level?

The answer

The manual attributes an incorrect cassette fluid-level reading to the cassette not being fully captured in the optimum position. Eject it and firmly reinsert it until it snaps into place.

The troubleshooting guide says the fluid-level sensor can misread when the cassette is not fully inserted and captured correctly. This may happen if the cassette is inserted slowly and captured in a position that affects the sensor, or if it is inserted too quickly and released before the capture mechanism reaches the optimum position.

  1. Eject the cassette.
  2. Reinsert it firmly.
  3. Continue inserting until it snaps in place.

The goal is not merely to place the cassette into the opening; it must be captured in the correct position by the system. This symptom is different from VFM18, which reports an unrecognized cassette, and from VFM14, which reports that the cassette is full. If reinsertion does not correct the level reading, the manual’s troubleshooting section does not prescribe a further operator adjustment for the sensor.
