Why can’t I change phase or mode on the Bausch & Lomb Stellaris Phaco Machine?

The answer

UIC03 means “Phase/Mode change not allowed while surgical functions are in use.” Stop the active surgical functions, then change the phase or mode.

UIC03 is a state restriction, not a failed touch screen or corrupted surgeon file. The system blocks a phase or mode change while a surgical function is active.

  1. Stop the active surgical function.
  2. Confirm that the system is no longer using the surgical function.
  3. Change the phase or mode.

The manual’s suggested action is explicitly to change Phase/Mode “while surgical functions are not in use.” This condition matters when a user tries to move between Ultrasound, Irrigation/Aspiration, Irrigation, Coagulation, or Vitrectomy while the system is still active. Do not interpret the message as saying that the selected phase or mode is unavailable; it says the change is not allowed at that moment. Once the active function is released or stopped, the phase or mode change can be attempted again.
