For optimum aspiration and reflux performance, the patient’s eye level must be at the same level as, or no more than 7 cm (3 in.) from, the system’s aspiration port.

The manual gives a specific positioning limit for aspiration and reflux: the patient’s eye level must be at the same level as the Stellaris system’s aspiration port, with a maximum difference of 7 cm (3 in.). This is not the same as the programmable Patient Eye Level offset, whose range is -15 cm to +15 cm.
The 7 cm requirement appears in the setup instructions for Irrigation/Aspiration and anterior vitrectomy. The manual states that failure to follow it may result in serious and permanent patient injury because the height difference affects aspiration and reflux performance.
When checking a setup, distinguish the physical eye-to-port limit from the software offset range. The software setting can compensate for a configured patient-eye-level difference within its stated range, but the manual still specifies the physical positioning relationship for optimum function.
