Turning the focusing knob suspends the Triton's auto focus function. To resume auto focus, pull the base toward the operator and then push it toward the patient side again.

The focusing knob and the automatic focus mechanism are not two independent controls. When the operator turns the focusing knob, the Triton suspends auto focus, so moving the instrument afterward may not restart automatic focusing by itself. This is especially relevant when the split lines do not converge automatically or when the operator has manually corrected focus.
- Finish the manual adjustment with the focusing knob.
- Pull the base toward the operator.
- Push the base toward the patient side again.
- Allow the auto focus operation to resume as the split lines are displayed.
If auto focus still does not work, the manual lists conditions where it may fail from time to time, including strong cataract and myopia or hyperopia beyond -13 to +12D. When the diopter compensation lens is not set to (0), the split lines are off and the auto focus function is invalidated.
