What is the difference between Topcon Triton Over Scan Count and Re-scan?

The answer

Over Scan Count repeatedly reads the same scan position to overlay tomograms and improve contrast, while Re-scan detects missing or deviated 3D data after movement and scans that data again.

These settings address different problems. Over Scan Count is a deliberate repeated acquisition at one position: the Triton reads the data several times for one scanned line, obtains two or more tomograms at that position, and displays them overlapped to improve contrast. It is available in the capture-icon protocol with values such as 128, 16, 8, or 4, depending on the scan.

Re-scan is a recovery function. If the patient blinks or fixation moves during a 3D scan, the obtained tomogram may be partly deviated or missing; Re-scan automatically detects that condition and scans the affected data again. It is limited to 3D and 3D Wide.

Increasing Over Scan Count does not restore a missing section caused by movement, and enabling Re-scan does not mean every line is intentionally acquired repeatedly for contrast.
